I love how you nailed it. I always find it amusing when foreign friends ask me why I don’t have a Chanel or Dior bag, and I have to explain that such expensive bags are considered very socially inappropriate in France, even when you can afford them.

Comment on 15 Most Classic French Perfumes of All Time by Shirley https://thefrench.com/perfumes/#comment-13918 Tue, 22 Oct 2024 12:24:57 +0000 https://thefrench.com/?p=2333#comment-13918 Sorry to say, I SO agree with you! Chanel No.5 is no longer the same. I won’t waste my money on it. There are no perfumes worth buying that I can find. You are absolutely right, no soul, certainly don’t last. The last Chanel No.5 Body Creme that my husband bought me, years ago, I try not to use too often for fear that when it’s gone, I’ll have nothing. He passed away 1 1/2 years ago and when I wear it for a special occasion it makes me feel he’s still with me. I keep thinking if I take a trip to Paris maybe I can find the original scent there. I’ve been looking up vintage perfumes and although I really don’t want a used perfume, that appears to be the only option. Thank God there are still vintage available. Powder too, I have found several that are unopened. Contemplating purchasing My Sin, Arpege, a couple of others. True…so sad.
